Collection and recycling of steel scrap, conversion of waste into valuable raw materials

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon doped with other elements. It is one of the most widely used metals in the world, making up almost everything from cars to kitchen utensils and everyday appliances.

It was the driving force behind technological development and progress in the industrial era, and continues to drive industry today. Like most metals – including aluminum, copper and brass – steel can be continuously reworked without any deterioration in its properties.

And this is in fact the case, as ferrous scrap is at the top of the list of materials that are most often recycled. This is primarily due to the widespread use of this material, as well as the price of ferrous scrap, which encourages processing.

This is extremely good news, as such activity also has a positive impact on the environment and the conservation of natural resources. Scrap metal recycling also brings financial benefits to companies, which save on production costs.

Steel waste collection. Full control of the process

Metal waste results from the manufacture of products in such areas as automotive, garden and construction products, household appliance manufacturing and many others. Residues from such plants are picked up by Nicrometal, segregated and sent to smelters.

After cleaning, the charge is melted in a special furnace operating at about 3000°C. The liquid steel is then cooled and formed into sheets, tubes or sections.

The recovered steel is distributed to various factories for use as raw material. In this way, the production cycle begins anew. Virtually all types of steel are recyclable, but it should be noted that their processing may vary.

This brings huge environmental benefits, preserving precious natural resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Recycling of ferrous metals

There are two main types of ferrous scrap that Nicrometal receives:

  • plain steel,
  • stainless and acid-resistant steel.

The difference between ordinary steel and stainless steel lies in its physical and chemical properties. Stainless shows high corrosion resistance and has a slightly higher melting point than other steels. That’s why it is often used in industries such as medical equipment manufacturing, chemical and food industries.

Both steel and stainless steel are recyclable, but should be separated, if only because of the difference in scrap price.

Reuse of scrap steel

Nicrometal’s goal is to eliminate waste in all its forms. This includes, but is not limited to, scrap steel, where proper recycling can bring lasting economic benefits to your company.

We help both large and small companies find the right recycling solutions for all their waste streams so that as little material as possible ends up in landfills.

Our experts introduce cost-effective steel recycling solutions that ensure maximum utilization of scrap steel while contributing to environmental protection. By working with our company, you gain a great deal and can focus on business development.
